This holiday season there are two different dancing robots that are being billed as the top Christmas toys for 2011. You may be wondering if one is better than the other, especially since one is selling for twice as much as the other at some retailers. Let’s do a quick comparison to see which is better, if any.

FIJIT Friends

First up are the FIJIT friends. These dancing robot dolls are being targeted at girls, even though they do not look gender specific. This interactive toy robot is available in four different characters. Your choices are:

• FIJIT Friends Trend-setting Willa Interactive Toy (the purple one)
• FIJIT Friends Sweetie-pie Serafina Interactive Toy (the pink one))
• FIJIT Friends Sporty Logan Interactive Toy (the blue one)
• FIJIT Friends Adventurous Sage Interactive Toy (the yellow one)

Each FIJIT friend can identify around 30 different phrases. You are supposed to speak to it so that you will get a response. They can also recognize and dance to music – even changing to match the beat.

They do talk to you and ask “What do you want to do now?” when you power them on. You can tell it to dance or chat with you – it can carry on a basic conversation by picking up keywords.

My Keepon

This dancing robot is stationary, meaning is does not spin around like the FIJIT friends. It does recognize when you are playing music and dances to it by bending and bouncing in place. The actual base of the robot never moves though.

It does not speak to you in real words. Instead, it chirps and pops at you. That’s it.

Like the FIJIT friends, the My Keepon is soft to the touch. The difference here is that it has touch sensors that make the robot react. So, if you pat his head he will honk at you and he will giggle if you press his sides.

The Best Dancing Robot: FIJIT Friends vs My KeepOn

Comparing the My Keepon and the FIJIT friends, I have to say that I think the FIJIT friends are the better dancing robot. Not only do they actually spin around and are mobile when dancing, but they can also talk back to you. Plus, they are cheaper than the My Keepon.

However, I think the My Keepon is the best dancing robot for adults while the FIJIT friends are best dancing robots for kids. I think kids will bore of the My Keepon quicker than the FIJIT friends.
